In the grand tapestry of existence, there are moments when the universe presents us with remarkable opportunities. These instances, like shimmering jewels amidst the mundane, beckon us to embrace them wholeheartedly. It is in these pivotal junctures that we must summon the courage to seize the proverbial bull by the horns and embark upon a path less traveled. For when life extends its benevolent hand, it is our duty to graciously accept its offerings and truly begin to flourish and evolve.
We had been thinking of going on a vacation somewhere in Samal, and I have been telling my two children that we will move forward with our plans when Ate Mikaela, my eldest child, graduates from college. I was taken aback when I got a message from my Facebook Page informing me that they wanted me to work with them in exchange for a free stay at their resort. I take that as a positive sign and immediately seize the chance.
Prior to visiting the resort, I needed to first meet with the owner of Punta de Gloria. Our schedule has been changed multiple times due to our conflicting schedules. I am very glad that our meeting took place on July 12th. I am thrilled to see her because I have numerous questions about her resort that I would like to ask.
The revelations surrounding the backstory of Punta de Gloria have left me utterly astounded. During my recent encounter with the esteemed proprietor, Ms. Lisa Valerio, I had the privilege of engaging in a captivating interview. The tale begins with his beloved son, who graced the world with his unique presence and an extraordinary mind.
Ms. Valerio is a leader who takes care of strategy projects, business risks, operations, branding, funding, and financial management. Formerly worked at Silicon Valley Bank, Wells Fargo, Charles Schwab, Eleven, AbilityPath, ChangeCast, Autism Deserves Equal Coverage, starting Fenixia Foundation, Inc., and building Punta de Gloria Resort from the ground up. She builds strong connections with her staff, peers, vendors, clients, customers, and volunteers while planning and running great businesses, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. She is also a philanthropist who cares about the safety and schooling of children as well as the rights of people with autism and their families. She started the Fenixia Foundation, which helps children with special needs and their families do well. The foundation's goals are to help kids reach their full potential, help families take care of their kids, and help parents, teachers, and other caregivers learn how to make a good change in kids' lives. A strong advocate for insurance and a member of the board of the Mental Health & Autism Insurance Project, she works to make sure that families and people get medical coverage for services related to mental health and autism. She is also an involved member of the Rotary Club of Palm Desert, California, and she helps out at the Palm Springs High School Adult Transition Program for adults with autism as a volunteer. She is a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. All of these roles give her motivation, inspiration, and a love for life. She loves to travel and spend time with her family and friends when she has free time.

PUNTA dE GLORIA RESORT
Discover the captivating allure of Samal, Davao del Norte, a hidden gem that beckons you to invest in its undeniable charm. When I asked her why she chose to invest in IGACOS, she revealed that her husband, a proud Davao native, had a deep-rooted connection to the area. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey, acquiring a private slice of paradise to create their very own resort. A perfect haven for their son's mental and physical well-being: a luxurious rest house designed to elevate his lifestyle to new heights.
A remarkable haven emerged, inviting individuals to embark on a journey of tranquility and delight. This exquisite resort, now open to the public, beckons those in search of a truly unforgettable staycation, a remarkable company team-building experience, or a heartwarming family reunion.
When one finds oneself at a luxurious resort, it is only natural to ponder the origins of its chosen appellation. In my personal sojourns to various such establishments, I have consistently found myself curious about the rationale behind their nomenclature. The question of what inspires individuals to choose a particular name has long intrigued many. Whether it be for a newborn child, a pet, a business, or even a creative project, the process of naming holds a certain allure. It is a decision that carries weight and significance, as it becomes an integral part of one's identity or brand. So, what exactly inspires individuals to come up with a name that resonates with them? In my quest for insight, I sought the wisdom of Ms. Valerio, who graciously shared with me the poignant recollections of her late mother-in-law, Gloria, in the form of memoirs.
Intriguingly, I have taken the liberty of conducting some thorough research on the subject matter at hand—the meaning behind the term "Punta." It appears that this term, derived from the Spanish language, translates to "Point" in English. However, it is worth noting that "Punta" carries a deeper connotation plus "Gloria" is often referred to as the "Point of Glory."
The 'Point of Glory' resort, with its name evoking a deeper significance, is situated at a unique vantage POINT on an island adjacent to the lush city garden of Samal. Every time one sets foot in this enchanting place, an overwhelming sense of serenity and GLORY washes over them, permeating their entire stay. Introducing a formidable challenge that is bound to ignite a surge of motivation within you, compelling you to pursue any other task with fervor.
Our Experience
Uncover the enchanting allure of the Davao Gulf, where tranquility and serenity intertwine to create an oasis of pure bliss. Nestled within this idyllic haven awaits a hidden gem, eagerly inviting weary travelers to escape the relentless chaos of city life.
We were picked up by the resort van, and upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and enthusiastic welcome from the resort staff.
We arrived at the resort just before noon, and to our delight, our food was already prepared and waiting for us at the Presidential Villa. Yes, we are staying at their Presidential Villa, which was previously used as the residential house of the resort owner. The villa was incredibly spacious and had the capacity to accommodate more than 10 people.
While we were eating, we had a brief conversation with Ms. Nora, the resort manager. She is very enthusiastic and accommodating. I appreciate how she attends to our needs and ensures that everything is well provided for during our stay.

Chelz my youngest daughter, super happy doing the Yolo sign while in the pool. Wearing a life jacket and 'salbabida' provided by the resort. |
After taking a break, we resumed following our itinerary. The girls were the first ones to jump into the private pool, which had a depth of 6 feet. My mother also followed suit. I didn't spend much time swimming in the private pool because I was more curious about exploring the beach area. Navigating a staircase with 110 steps can be quite challenging.
Experience the sheer perfection of Punta de Gloria beach, where every moment is an invitation to indulge in the refreshing embrace of the cool, crystal-clear waters.
It is truly remarkable how the allure of water transcends age and time. Even at the ripe age of 82, my mother has not lost her affinity for the aquatic realm. It is a testament to the timeless appeal and undeniable charm that water holds for individuals of all generations. I must extend my heartfelt congratulations to her for her triumphant ascent of the formidable 110 steps at Punta de Gloria. I must express my utmost admiration for her unwavering determination and sheer tenacity as she fearlessly conquered the challenges before her, ascending and descending with an unparalleled sense of authority and finesse. Good job, Mama!
After taking a plunge into the sea, we made the decision to head to our next destination, which was the public pool. One thing I appreciate about this pool is its varying depths of 4 and 5 feet. Additionally, it offers a separate kiddie pool that is sure to delight young children.
Indulging in a refreshing treat after a strenuous day of swimming is an absolute delight. Such was the case when we were presented with a delectable serving of Halo-halo, a popular Filipino dessert. The experience was nothing short of extraordinary, as each spoonful transported our taste buds to a realm of pure bliss.
After a brief respite, our weary souls were rejuvenated as the clock struck 8 p.m., signaling the commencement of a delectable dining experience at the highly anticipated Nate's Bar, set to open its doors imminently.
In a culinary landscape teeming with delectable offerings, it is no wonder that we find ourselves unable to resist the temptation of indulging in a plethora of dishes. The establishment in question, renowned for its generous portions, leaves us satiated to the brim. Each delectable morsel that graces our palates is a testament to the culinary prowess of the chefs behind the scenes. It is an experience that leaves us both content and longing for more, a testament to the irresistible allure of their delectable creations.
After enjoying a delicious dinner, the children went for a night swim while the adults had a pleasant chat before calling it a night. My mother and I returned to the Presidential Villa, and the children have finished swimming as well. We concluded the evening by saying a prayer and then going to sleep.
The following day, I woke up at a reasonable hour. I assumed that my two young adults would want to go for a swim. However, when I knocked on their door and peeked into their room, I discovered that they were still fast asleep. Since it was still early, I decided to go back to sleep. At 7 a.m., my alarm woke me up, and I quickly grabbed my towel. I planned to take a refreshing swim before breakfast.
After taking a bath, I decided to pass the time while waiting for breakfast and the children to finish getting ready. I took the opportunity to snap some pictures and read a book that was gifted to me called "A Woman Unboxed."
The resort, my dear readers, is an absolute haven for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Ah, indeed, I found myself in a state of complete relaxation. |
As the morning sun shines brightly, its warm glow envelops us. The air is filled with the delightful aroma of a freshly prepared breakfast, enticing us to come together in the welcoming reception and function hall areas. In the realm of breakfast, they offer us a hearty meal filled with nourishing and strengthening nutrients.
As we prepared to depart, the esteemed Ms. Nora graciously proposed a brief sojourn through the enchanting landscapes of Samal Island, recognizing the rarity of our visits to this idyllic locale. The tour served as a delightful opportunity to accompany my dear mother on a nostalgic journey through the captivating region of Samal. It had been quite some time since her last visit, and this excursion provided the perfect occasion to rekindle her fond memories. Thanks much Ms. Nora for your suggestion.
