I have had my improved postal ID for three years now. I applied for a Postal ID during the year of the pandemic. I was eager to obtain it, as I currently do not possess a valid government ID. I lost my SSS ID, and obtaining a new one has been a lengthy and cumbersome process. I had to stand in a long and hectic line to get an affidavit of loss notarized by an attorney. Unfortunately, it took several months, or rather, a whole year, to finally receive the new SSS ID. And obtaining a postal ID is a relatively quick process, typically taking around 3–4 months to receive it.
In a surprising turn of events, the renewal and application process for Postal IDs has been abruptly suspended, leaving many individuals in a state of confusion and frustration. The announcement, which was made on March 10, 2023, has left countless citizens wondering about the reasoning behind this sudden decision and the potential implications it may have on their daily lives.
Postal IDs have long been a vital form of identification for countless individuals, serving as a means to verify one's identity and address. Whether it be for opening bank accounts, applying for government services, or simply proving one's identity in various transactions, the Postal ID has been a reliable and widely accepted document. The suspension of Postal ID renewal and application has undoubtedly raised eyebrows and sparked speculation. Four long months have passed, and yet here we are, still grappling with the lingering effects of a suspension that I had naively assumed would have been lifted by now.
As I ventured into the establishment on July 28th, a sense of disappointment washed over me as my eyes fell upon a conspicuous notice at Window 13. To my chagrin, the proclamation boldly declared that the renewal and application procedures remained indefinitely suspended.
I am not the only one who is devastated by the outcome; there are many people who are also applying for the Postal ID, which is one of the requirements for obtaining a passport. People who reside outside of Davao City are lining up to obtain their Postal ID, as they believe it is the most efficient method to acquire a valid identification card in a shorter period of time.
PHILSYS or better known as the PHILIPPINE NATIONAL ID
Through Republic Act No. 11055, also known as the Philippine Identification System Act, the Philippine government implemented the National ID, also known as Philsys. Its purpose is to establish a unified national identification system for all citizens and resident aliens of the Republic of the Philippines.
So, here I am, eagerly waiting for any sign of confirmation from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) regarding my National ID registration. It's been quite some time since I completed the process, but alas, no email or text message has made its way to my inbox. I must admit, the anticipation is starting to get to me. I remember the day I decided to take the plunge and register for my National ID at SM City Davao. It was a momentous occasion, filled with hope and excitement for the future. The thought of having a single identification card that would streamline various government transactions was truly enticing. With this ID, I would no longer have to carry around multiple documents or endure long queues at government offices. It seemed like a dream coming true. Filled with enthusiasm, I diligently followed the registration process outlined by the PSA. I provided all the necessary information, submitted the required documents, and patiently waited for the confirmation email or text message that would signify the successful completion of my registration. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, and months into years, but still, no word from the PSA. I must admit, I find myself growing increasingly anxious as each day passes without any communication from the PSA. Did I miss a step in the registration process? Was there an error?
So, I had this interesting encounter when I went to the Davao Postal Office, trying to renew my Postal ID, and knowing that it is still suspended one of the officials approached me. He seemed quite friendly and eager to help. He mentioned that if I happened to have a copy of my registration with PhilSys Transaction Slip with a QR code, there was a convenient way to check it. All I had to do was head over to window 16. So there I was standing in line and made sure that I bring a copy of my Philsys Transaction Slip. As I approached window 16, I handed over my copy and watched as the staff scanned my QR code. However, to my disappointment, it turned out that my National ID was not yet available.
Today has been quite a rollercoaster of emotions for me. I recently discovered that I am currently without a valid ID, and I must admit, it has left me feeling utterly devastated. The realization hit me like a ton of bricks, and I can't help but feel a sense of helplessness in this situation. It's as if a crucial piece of my identity has been temporarily stripped away, leaving me feeling vulnerable and exposed. The implications of not having a valid ID are far-reaching, affecting various aspects of my life. Simple tasks that I once took for granted, such as traveling or even proving my age, suddenly seem like insurmountable challenges. As we navigate through the ups and downs of life, there is often a glimmer of hope that things will change for the better. We yearn for a transformation—a shift in the system that governs our world. It is this hope that keeps us going, propelling us forward even as I eagerly anticipate the availability of my National ID. It has been a long wait, but I am hopeful that the day will soon come when I can finally hold this important document in my hands. The National ID holds great significance as it serves as proof of my identity and citizenship. It will provide me with a sense of security and enable me to access various services and benefits.
