The Christmas season has officially arrived in Davao City, and nowhere is the spirit of the holidays felt more brightly than at SM Lanang’s Christmas Lighting Ceremony 2025. This year, the celebration became even more meaningful as SM Supermalls President Mr. Steven Tan himself came to Davao to lead the much-awaited event — bringing with him not just festive cheer, but also his warm desire to reconnect with old friends and partners from the city.

The ceremony was held on November 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at The Atrium of SM Lanang, where Davaoeños gathered in their most elegant Holiday Glam in Champagne or Merlot attire. The air was filled with laughter, excitement, and the familiar joy that only the Christmas season can bring.

When the countdown to the grand lighting of SM Lanang’s 55-foot Christmas tree began, the crowd collectively held its breath. And as the tree finally came to life in a dazzling display of lights, ornaments, ribbons, and gifts — the entire Atrium glowed with wonder and joy.

When Nanon Korapat released his latest single “Shiftless” under Riser Music, it wasn’t just another comeback — it was a statement. Directed by Aom Asanachinda, the music video unfolds in a haunting, cinematic world consumed by a zombie apocalypse, filled with tension, symbolism, and emotion. Starring alongside Tata Tarnpol, the newest actor-singer under GMMTV. Nanon offers something far beyond a love song. He delivers a story of survival, emotion, and queer undertones — a combination rarely seen in mainstream Thai music videos.

But what made Shiftless even more striking is how the OhmNanon fandom quickly noticed the parallels between this story and the Bad Buddy Series, where Nanon previously starred opposite Ohm Pawat. Many pointed out that certain visual elements — from the tone and color palette to subtle camera angles and emotional tension — seem to echo scenes from the beloved series, almost as if Shiftless were its quiet continuation in another universe.

Nanon has always been a risk-taker, and Shiftless is his boldest move yet. While most Thai pop tracks focus on romance, heartbreak, or youthful themes, Nanon dared to merge a zombie survival narrative with queer emotion — a combination that instantly sets him apart. Under Aom Asanachinda’s visionary direction, the story goes beyond horror tropes, becoming an emotional exploration of what it means to remain human in a decaying world.

Why This Queer Theme Matters for Riser Music

It’s important to note that Shiftless marks a first for Riser Music. Among all its artists, none have yet delved into storytelling that boldly integrates queer emotion in such a raw and cinematic way. By choosing this concept, Nanon isn’t just representing himself — he’s opening a new creative door for his label.

This choice reflects his deep understanding of storytelling and identity. Nanon has never shied away from portraying queer roles with depth and authenticity, and his decision to bring that same energy into his music signifies courage — both artistic and personal. It’s also a subtle message of inclusivity, signaling that Riser Music is ready to embrace broader forms of expression beyond traditional pop narratives.

Through Shiftless, Nanon shows that queer themes aren’t trends — they’re human stories worth telling, even in the most unexpected settings.

The word Shiftless means “without direction” — a perfect mirror to the characters portrayed in the video: alive yet lost, surviving but detached. The zombie apocalypse becomes a metaphor for emotional emptiness and societal collapse. Amid that lifelessness, love — particularly queer love — becomes the only sign of true humanity left.

Fans couldn’t help but link this emotional undertone to Bad Buddy, where love also existed amid social barriers and silence. The way Shiftless uses space, distance, and wordless connection feels like an artistic echo — a story reborn in a different form.

    Nanon’s Growth as an Artist

With Shiftless, Nanon is no longer just performing; he’s curating emotion. He’s moving from being a celebrated actor to a visionary artist who uses music as his narrative canvas. Every detail — from the haunting vocals to the visual storytelling — speaks of creative maturity. This is not a song for radio comfort; it’s a piece of visual poetry meant to be interpreted, discussed, and felt.

Queer storytelling has often been limited to specific genres, but Shiftless changes that. It presents queerness not as a label or issue, but as an integral part of human emotion. This redefines representation — showing that queer love belongs not just in romantic dramas, but in any world, any reality, even one overrun by the undead.

With Aom Asanachinda’s direction and Tata Tarnpol’s compelling presence, Shiftless becomes both a local and global statement. It carries the emotional honesty that international audiences connect to, while showcasing the cinematic power of Thai artistry. It also highlights Riser Music’s evolving creative vision — one that’s now more open to bold, inclusive, and socially aware storytelling.

In the end, Shiftless is more than a song — it’s a declaration of artistic and emotional freedom. Through its haunting imagery and queer subtext, it speaks of love that survives even in ruins, and identity that persists even in silence.

For fans, it’s impossible not to feel a familiar ache — the same one that Bad Buddy left behind. And for Nanon Korapat, Shiftless is proof that he’s not just telling stories — he’s redefining how they’re told.

It’s funny how some things we keep putting off finally happen when someone gives us that little push. In my case, it was my eldest daughter who insisted that I should get my Philippine passport. “Ma, it’s about time,” she said with a smile while helping me fill out the online form last July 2025.

Honestly, I never thought I’d be this excited over a passport, but knowing it’s a key to future travels and possibilities made me look forward to it even more.

    Booking My Appointment

With my daughter’s help, we completed the online application at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) website. The process was easy and convenient—I just had to choose a schedule, upload the necessary details, and pay P950. My appointment was set for September 23, 2025, at 3 PM.

Since I’m the type who likes to come early to avoid the rush, I decided to head to DFA SM City Davao ahead of time for the initial checking of my documents.

As per the instructions on the DFA site, I printed my Appointment Form and Electronic Receipt (both the Applicant and Client copies). I also photocopied all my documents—birth certificate, marriage certificate, and valid IDs—making sure everything was on A4 size paper. (A reminder for those applying: DFA is strict about the paper size!)

My First Visit: September 23, 2025

When I arrived, the guard guided me to Room 2, where I handed in my appointment form. They stamped it and asked me to wait for my turn. The place wasn’t that crowded, so it didn’t take long before I was called to Window 3 for document verification.

Everything seemed smooth until the staff noticed my birth and marriage certificates were NSO-issued. She gently explained that since March 2025, DFA no longer accepts NSO documents and only recognizes those from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

She attached a small note on my form stating that I needed to provide PSA documents within six months, or my ₱950 payment would be forfeited.

That same day, I went online to request for PSA copies of my birth and marriage certificates, which cost ₱325 each, including home delivery.

    Receiving My PSA Documents

Fast forward to October 1, 2025, my PSA documents finally arrived! I immediately had them photocopied (again on A4 paper, of course) and prepared for my return to the DFA.

My Second Visit: October 3, 2025

I went back to the DFA office and handed in the same stamped appointment form from my first visit. They stamped it again and directed me to the verification area.

This time, the place was buzzing with people—parents, babies, toddlers—you name it! The crying, laughter, and giggles filled the room, making it feel both chaotic and alive. I couldn’t help but smile; it felt like a family day at the DFA.

When my turn came, the staff reviewed my documents once more, asked a few personal questions, and told me to proceed to Step 4 for my photo and biometrics.

Finally! The moment I’d been waiting for. Sitting in front of the camera, I couldn’t help but think—this is it, I’m finally getting my passport!

    A Little Reflection

It took me two visits, a few adjustments, and a lot of patience, but I’m genuinely glad I went through the process. The staff were courteous and accommodating, even with the crowd.

Now, I’m just waiting for my passport to arrive, already dreaming of where it might take me—whether for leisure, work, or simply new experiences waiting beyond the horizon.

If you’re planning to apply soon, here are a few things I learned:
✅ Always check DFA’s updated requirements (they change from time to time).
✅ Only PSA-issued certificates are accepted now.
✅ Photocopy everything on A4 paper.
✅ Go early even if you have a confirmed appointment slot.

A little preparation goes a long way—and in my case, it’s one step closer to new adventures!

    !! UPDATE !!

    Finally Claiming My Passport

My tentative schedule for claiming my passport was October 21, but I decided to go a day later, on October 22, just to make sure it was already there and ready for release.

So once again, I headed to the DFA office inside SM City Davao—this time feeling more relaxed and excited. I already knew the process, so everything felt familiar.

Upon arrival, I followed the same procedure, but now I lined up in the RELEASING area. The staff instructed us to sit down and wait for our turn to enter. After a few minutes, our group was called inside, and we patiently waited to be called by surname.

I regret that I noticed the NO PHOTOGRAPHY. NO VIDEO RECORDING. notice only after taking the photo. My sincere apologies.

Not long after, I heard my surname being called! I lined up again, went to the counter, and there it was—my Philippine passport, finally in my hands!

It may seem like a small thing to some, but holding that little maroon booklet felt like a big accomplishment. It symbolizes not just identity, but also freedom, opportunity, and the start of new possibilities.

    Closing Thoughts

From the day I applied online, to completing my documents, to finally claiming my passport—it’s been a learning experience filled with patience and excitement.

BTW, I bought my Passport Plastic Cover for only P50 inside DFA

The whole process at DFA SM City Davao was smooth and organized, thanks to the staff who were accommodating every step of the way.

And now that I have my passport, who knows where my next adventure will take me? ✈️

September 19, 2025, marked a milestone for electric vehicle (EV) innovation in Mindanao. In the atrium of SM City Davao, VinFast — the fast-rising Vietnamese EV brand — held an exclusive soft-opening event, unveiling two of its newest models: the VF3 and VF5. As a local Key Opinion Leader (KOL), I got to see, touch, and experience what VinFast is bringing to the Philippines. Here’s what went down, what it means, and why this is more than just a car launch.

What VinFast Is & Why This Matters

VinFast has been making waves in Southeast Asia and has rapidly expanded beyond Vietnam. Their goal: to bring high-quality, stylish, accessible electric vehicles to markets just like ours.

In the Philippines, the VF5, VF7, and VF9 were among the first models introduced through dealerships opened in mid-2024.

And just recently, the VF3 made its formal entry into the market. Pre-orders opened from September 19 to 30, 2024, with special introductory pricing for those who reserve within this period.

So the SM City Davao event fits right into VinFast’s broader roll-out plan: letting people see the cars in person, experience their build, features, design, and decide whether to reserve.

    What I Saw: VF3 & VF5 Up Close

Here’s a breakdown of what makes these models stand out, based partly on sources + what I observed at the Atrium.

    Pricing, Warranties & Perks

What VinFast is offering is not just cars, but a “package”. Here are a few key things:

    • Pre-order perks: Special pricing for early reservations (as mentioned with the VF3).

    • Battery subscription vs battery-included: If you don’t want to buy the battery outright, there are subscription models (monthly fees depending on usage). It lowers the upfront cost significantly.

    • Warranty: For VF3, for example, there’s a vehicle warranty (7 years / 160,000 km) and an 8-year unlimited mileage warranty for the battery (if purchased outright). If subscribed, they cover battery maintenance and replacing battery capacity if it drops below 70%.

Why the Davao Soft Opening Felt Special

    • It wasn’t just about showing product; it was about bringing the VinFast experience closer. For many in Davao, this might be the first time to see these EVs in person.

    • It gives the chance for potential buyers to touch, feel, ask questions — something that photos or specs can’t deliver.

    • It builds awareness about EVs — what owning one might mean with regard to charging, maintenance, warranties.

    • For influencers/KOLs, it’s also an opportunity to share honest impressions locally, which helps people in Davao or nearby provinces make informed decisions.

Challenges & What to Watch Out For

From what I gathered and what I’ve heard:

    • Charging infrastructure: One of the biggest hurdles for EV adoption in Mindanao is whether there are enough fast chargers, whether they are reliable, how accessible. If you get a VinFast, where will you charge?

    • Spare parts & servicing: Warranty is good, but regular servicing and availability of parts locally will affect ownership experience.

    • Resale & market acceptance: Early adopters might pay more, but how the market values EVs in resale will be interesting.

What This Means for Davao & Beyond

VinFast’s entry adds competition in the EV space here, which often leads to better pricing, more options, possibly more innovation.

It signals that Davao is on the radar for big automotive/technology brands. That could push local governments or mall developers to improve EV infrastructure (charging stations, incentives).

Helps encourage awareness of sustainability: fewer emissions, cleaner air, less dependence on fossil-fuels — gradual change, but meaningful.

Attending the soft opening was exciting. The VF3 and VF5 feel like serious contenders in the emerging EV market in the Philippines. They are sleek, thoughtful, and clearly aimed at making EVs more accessible. For people in Davao who’ve been considering going electric, this is a chance to move from curiosity to action.

If you’re thinking of making the switch, here are some tips:

    1. Try to test drive one, even informally — to get a feel for acceleration, comfort, visibility. Visit Kar Asia at Bajada or visit soon their showroom at Sta. Lucia Mall.

    2. Map out charging options around your home/work — convenience matters.

    3. Factor in battery subscription vs owning battery. Short- vs long-term cost differences could be significant.

    4. Talk to others who own EVs locally — forums, KOLs, social media — get feedback on how realistic the specs are in real-life.

I’m truly glad I got the chance to witness VinFast’s first-ever exhibit here in Davao City. Seeing up close how this Vietnamese brand brings innovation and sustainability together was such an inspiring experience. If you haven’t checked it out yet, make sure to drop by the VinFast exhibit at SM City Davao Atrium before it ends on October 9 — it’s definitely worth your time!

Thanks so much VinFast Davao Team
