It's been more than three years since COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown measures forced Uniqlo Philippines to cancel its Style Talks. Since then, we've been treated to a screen-based fashion display of historical moments as they unfolded.

Uniqlo has previously held Style Talks here in Davao City last July 2019 with Bea Constantino and Pia Wurtzbach.

Now, Uniqlo Style Talks is back in front of a live audience, this time with Mia Adarna (Cebu) and Andrea Taylor (Davao). These days, however, shows and events are starting to make a comeback. We met up with these two industry insiders to talk about the future of summer fashion essentials as the world is beginning to open up and major events begin to resume.

    UNIQLO SUMMER STYLE TALKS

I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation from the EON Group to attend the Uniqlo Summer Style Talks held at SM City Davao. There is a broad and quite natural yearning for physically entertaining shows. The temperature of the digital show is uncomfortably low. And in case you were wondering, the answer is yes: I did accept the aforementioned event, and I'm excited to take part once more in the Uniqlo Philippines Style Talks.

The topic of discussion for today is the same way back 2019, but it will be approached from a unique angle by Andrea Taylor, who is a multitasking mother who juggles her responsibilities as a mother and a wife. And Mia Adarna, an entrepreneur and yoga enthusiast.

During the warmer months, I can't get enough of wearing soft cloth. In this fast-paced world of ours, it may be quite a challenge to find clothes that not only look nice but also feel good. You want to look as good as you possibly can, but at the same time, you want to feel as comfortable as you possibly can, particularly if you sweat quite a bit. It may seem as though you are on an endless quest to find the fabrics that allow the most air to pass through them, but this need not be the case.

As far as I can recall, Pia Wurtzbach advised the audience at one of her talks that in order to find something to wear that is quite comfortable, they should shop at Uniqlo. Exactly! I agree.

Fabrics that don't reveal sweat are usually breathable, which helps prevent sweating from occurring. Fabrics that are breathable make it easy for air to pass through them, which increases the rate at which perspiration evaporates and helps to keep you cool. Even when you're working up a sweat, the Uniqlo AIRism will keep you comfortable and dry; however, not all moisture-wicking fabrics are breathable, and vice versa. Yet, this Uniqlo AIRism will keep you dry as if it were breathing, ensuring that you have a smooth sensation throughout the day. Cupro fibers, which are breathable, are able to absorb and then release sweat from the body. Properties that wick away moisture help you stay clean and dry.

The linen selection at Uniqlo is really popular. The Premium Linen sold at UNIQLO is crafted using only linen that is made of natural fibers. It has a high degree of durability and a natural texture, and when it is dyed, it produces vivid colors. As linen is both breathable and comfortable to wear, it has a long history of being regarded as an important component of summer essentials.

HONOR Philippines X Series Media Event
held at Omerta Bistro + Lounge, Davao City
    March 4, 2023

    Daghang Salamat HONOR PHILIPPINES!

On January 28 of this year, I attended the Ateneo de Davao University BSBA Batch 1997 Panagtapok 2023 reunion. I had been to a class reunion, so I knew exactly what to expect.

Mr. Peter Paul Tan Valentin, who is now the mayor of Malalag, Davao del Sur, hosted the event in his home in Las Terrazas. If I'm not mistaken, the last time I visited their home was in 2018.

Therefore, I had difficulty navigating the address provided. I send a message to my fellow classmates, asking them to provide me with the precise location if I take a taxi. Alas! One of my classmates invited me to join them going to the location of the event.

Thanks Peng Sy for the ride! 😘

As soon as we arrived and walked inside, I saw that something was amiss. I saw familiar faces, and yes, they're all from my university, but their not my BSBA Sec. B classmates. Then I recalled that the event included the classmates of Mr. Valentin in Management class.

After that, I became aware that some of my classmates from BSBA Section B were already present. Oh, the good old times! How quickly they all made their way back! That was the anticipation all along. The truth turned out to be very different. I had a hard time recalling even the simplest of details. Really Jean? (hahahaha)

AdDU Sec. B with Sir Butch Samante

At one point, I was reunited with them again. It's been a while since I haven't seen them (due to the pandemic), though we still communicate and I've seen some of their updates through social media, but what is more cool is to see them again in person.

As far as I can remember, I'm not that close with my classmates because I'm in a dance club and spend most of my time practicing with my troupe I hadn't thought about it, but I just recently remembered that my college life was more about dancing.

My mind began to wander back to my time in college. Oh, what happy times they were, even though (for me) they ended in such tragedy! OUCH! My experience at college is starting to feel more and more like a roller coaster. The path's twists and turns, including its numerous inclines and declines, are nothing short of incredible.

I had a serious relationship, but it ended just as we were about to graduate from college. It was a blessing in disguise. A terrible thing happened to me, and it gave me some time to think about my life; consequently, in order to forget that depressing phase, I applied for work, and I got a job that made it possible for me to move on; in other words, I became a working student.

During the course of the evening, I met several of my girlfriends, whom I used to hang out with during my freshman years in college. BTW, I'm a graduate of BSBA Marketing major, and most attendees present at the event are major in Management.

I heard the success stories of my batchmates who were destined for greatness, and some had somehow gotten derailed. The most fascinating one is the topic of menopause and medical maintenance. How life keeps us going to fight each personal battle, whether financial, emotional, or spiritual—yes, life does indeed begin at 40!

Mr. Wilfredo "Butch" Samante, our freshman facilitator, was also present at the event. He gave me a look that made me feel 17 years old again, hehe, and then asked, "What do you do?"

I responded, "I am a Virtual Assistant and a blogger."

"It doesn't surprise me," he snapped.

He reached out and hugged me. "I may be in my sixties," he hissed, "but there's nothing wrong with my memory."

The celebration kicks off with games, and winners receive cash!

We all triumphed in our respective game categories, so congratulations to all of us! However, the most enjoyable activity is getting together with a large group of people and indulging in a magnificent meal.

The night will not be complete without Karaoke and dancing.

You are likely curious about my college boyfriend. I'm happy to say that he was exactly as youthful and outrageous at the reunion as he was the same person I dated for three and a half years, which did not surprise me.

Lastly, I ended up with a favorable opinion of my classmates. The greatest shock was how little the majority of us had changed. People who were interesting characters in college remain interesting characters today.

It’s great to see old class(batch) mates. Can you still recognize them?

The University of Southeastern Philippines and the Seniors Student Organization held their Pinning Ceremony for the Pre-service Teachers for College Education yesterday afternoon, January 23, 2023, despite months of lockdown and all the stringent compliance of the pandemic.

The 4𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙨 of 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬 together with their FS SUPERVISORS Ma'am Sharon Rodriguez Tabile & Ma'am Jean Lumbaning Bejano during the Pinning Ceremony 2023.

Dr. Raquel D. Almasa, Associate Dean/Graduate School Head/MEd-ECE Coordinator, opened the event with a message that highlighted the University Core Values, or C A. R. E. S, or the five main points on which everyone present could likely agree: Collaboration, Accountability, Resilience, Excellence, and Service Orientation. She went on to say, "Succeeding despite difficulties in inspiring students and changing teachers." To whose attention does this turn? The focus of all instruction should be on you. It's not just about education; it's also meant to inspire the instructors of tomorrow. Certainly, the institution is committed to providing its students and the community's future teachers with a top-notch education.

Dr. Raquel D. Almasa, Associate Dean/Graduate School Head/MEd-ECE Coordinator

Ms. Jahzeel Nicole Delos Reyes, a junior at USEP CED majoring in English, performed an intermission number to "The Journey" by Lea Salonga. Last words from a classic tune:

"When they're shining on my life
I can see a better day
I won't let the darkness in
What a journey it has been."

Wow, this has been quite the trip. And that's an uplifting song!
I pray the students hear the message in the song and use it as motivation to follow their hearts and achieve their goals.

Dr. Robert R. Garcia, a former CED student and current Master Teacher 1
from the Senior Department of Francisco Bangoy NHS

Even during the pandemic, USEP was able to continue the education of students and create a pleasant chapter in history. And now, by holding the Pinning Ceremony of the College of Education, it reminds the students that they're still under the umbrella of their university and that they will not forget their mission, which is to "TEACH WITH HONOR." Dr. Robert R. Garcia, a former CED student and current Master Teacher 1 from the Senior Department of Francisco Bangoy NHS, gave an edifying address: "To look forward and never give up on your dreams, whatever the difficulty, there is always something good at the end." "Be patient at all times."

The official Pinning Ceremony started by calling the Pre-service students of College of Education:

    1. BACHELOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION

    • Major in Mathematics

    • Major in Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning Technology

A song called "MaPa" by SB19 was performed as a surprise number. It was a tribute to parents and was sung by the students to their parents.

I was moved to tears after listening to such a beautiful song, and my eyes started to well up. Following that, my daughter presented me with a flower as a sign of her love and respect for me.

Following the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr. Felix D. Ramirez, the SSO Adviser, read the concluding words that were given by Dr. Lindy C. Lulab, Program Head, BTVTEd/Coordinator, Practicum/OJT BSED. "To be a part of something as prestigious as this event is such an incredible accomplishment." As we continue our trek, we will eventually reach the mother's door. Remain modest. "The fruits of your labor will not be long in coming."

After the ceremony, there were opportunities to take pictures!

Congratulations to University of Southeastern Philippines Senior Student Organization Officers for a successful and memorable event.
So proud of you Mikaela Francesca - SSO Auditor!

When we return to school in the week following the New Year, we are always given an assignment to write about the resolutions we made for the upcoming year. I have a firm conviction that setting New Year's resolutions for myself and writing them down will facilitate my development in some way, so I don't hesitate to put those resolutions in writing.

I'm not going to lie; however, as I get older, I find that whenever I read a post about New Year's resolutions, I can't help but let out a little bit of a sigh. I don't believe in New Year's resolutions, despite the fact that I am a firm believer in the concepts of goals, inspirations, and being the most badass version of yourself.

Why I do not believe in making resolutions at the beginning of each new year? Because I believe that, when used in the manner in which they are frequently applied, they are the equivalent of preparing oneself to fail.

Why am I against New Year's resolutions? Because they often set you up for failure.

Please bear with me as I use a cheesy metaphor to explain why I don't believe in New Year's resolutions. Imagine that your life is a one big, developing city and that you've been living in it for 365 days, comparing it to a developing province with many hills and rough roads. In a big city, you can get anything right away, but the road splits every 365 miles. You have two options: you can live in a city with a sudden, huge, steep hill that you have to climb to keep going, or you can live a simple life but have to go through pain to stay alive. You would choose the big city for a lot of different reasons.

To many people, New Year's resolutions are just like that, and that's how they should be treated. Many people maintain their lives in precisely the same manner throughout the entire year, yet on December 31, they experience a surge of revitalization and fresh inspiration for the coming year. They claim that they are going to "finally" begin their weight loss challenge, or they decide to save money for the approaching new year, or they decide to be good sons and daughters to their parents, or they plan to make themselves wealthy for the next year!

And knowing that this is the way you think about setting New Year's resolutions, I congratulate you on a job well done! It is always to everyone's benefit to better themselves. It's no surprise that gym memberships skyrocket in January; this just goes to show how much people like to push themselves. However, as the month progresses, you'll notice that these numbers begin to decline gradually.

I don't believe in New Year's resolutions because they make huge expectations for yourself at one time of the year without a foundation for change. If you live in a big progressive city all year, then expect to achieve a huge objective on January 1st, you're setting yourself up for failure. I'm all for fulfilling promises, especially self-promises, but not maintaining your resolutions isn't about willpower because you're forcing yourself to choose between a major metropolis with a massive hill or a quiet life in a province. Any reasonable person would chose the city, even though you have to compete with the fast-growing economy. In short, BE REALISTIC!

The first day of the new year is an excellent opportunity to take stock of one's life, to initiate fresh beginnings, and to consider one's long-term goals and aspirations. These activities can all take place on the first day of the new year. But if you don't give any of this any thought until the first of the year, you're going to put a lot of pressure on yourself if you suddenly decide that you're going to start going to the gym first thing in the morning every day or traveling the world when you don't have enough money to do so. As I said, d
    on't make yourself a FAILURE.

Imagine a life of simplicity, where you don't have to strive for anything and can instead take the easy route instead of the steep one up the mountain of your current situation. There may be some minor slopes and inclinations, but nothing too challenging. While it won't leave you completely spent, it will leave you with a reminder that you're always making progress by burning a little bit more muscle with each mile. If you stop and take stock of your progress at the conclusion, you'll see that you've come a long way and are far superior to where you were before.

In large part, the revelry of New Year's Eve contributes to the air of excitement and promise that permeates the start of a new calendar year. The best thing you can do for yourself is to resolve to do something that will bring you closer to your goals, make your daily life better, or do both. But if we treat a resolution as if it were something that would change our lives forever, focusing on our goals only at the end of the year and expending all of our energy going as high and as fast as possible, then those miles won't be enjoyable, because no one wants to scale a hill. Instead of basing a major life shift on what we don't want to do, we should be doing what makes us happy. Right?

Residents of Sitio Panaga, Paquibato District, Davao City, now have access to a basic water supply. Apo Agua Infrastuctura, Inc. (Apo Agua) installed a water system in their community in collaboration with the Davao City Police Department's Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay (RPSB).

Apo Agua representatives turned over the 1,500 meters of pipes to leaders of Sitio Panaga in Paquibato District, led by Barangay Colosas Kagawad Merlinda Bacus, Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative Datu Gilbert Sagoksok, and Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay personnel.

Apo Agua's recent donation to the DCPO of 1,500 meters of pipes and construction materials. RPSB's small-scale water solution project in Barangay Colosas will benefit more than 350 indigenous households from the Ata-Manobo community in Panaga Village, Brgy. Datu Libayao Elementary School students, and the Council Complex.

The small-scale water system, dubbed "Project Blue," aims to alleviate the persistent water shortage problems with accessibility in more communities that will not directly benefit from the Bulk Water Project.

It introduces sustainable small-scale water solutions, such as water catchment facilities and water pipelines, in host communities and encourages residents' engagement as active partners for a viable project.

Water now flows from the newly rehabilitated water reservoir in Sitio Panaga, Paquibato District.

Residents of Barangay Colosas are grateful to Apo Agua and the DCPO for addressing water scarcity.

"We are grateful for Apo Agua's support for RPSB programs. This water augmentation for the barangay would not have been possible without their help. Our IP brothers and sisters have long wished for a better water supply. "As they say, water is life and the most basic need in any place," said PLT. Gary Aldaba, team leader of RBSP Barangay Colosas.

"Project Blue" demonstrates that the Filipinos' most prized culture of "Bayanihan"—helping others and working together to achieve common goals—is still very much alive.

Apo Agua hopes that by strengthening the spirit of collaboration among local community stakeholders, these water solutions will bridge the gap in resource allocation and improve teamwork to ensure that water supply sources are safeguarded and sustained.

"Our goal is to provide small-scale water solutions in our immediate communities through Project Blue. Our team includes engineers with technical expertise in water operations, and we can put that knowledge to use by collaborating closely with the community and ensure that these projects are effective and long-term," said Apo Agua President Anna Lu.

Meanwhile, the Aboitiz-led Apo Agua has pledged to be a long-term partner of the Davao City Water District (DCWD) by assisting in the mobilization of the Water Truck initiative as an intermediary water solution for Davao City residents while the Bulk Water Project nears completion.

Door-to-door water delivery, particularly in areas with intermittent water supplies, has served more than 5,000 households in the city’s Second District since June 2022.

    About Apo Agua

Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. is building one of the Philippines’ largest private bulk water supply facilities that will supply over 300 million liters per day of safe and sustainable water to the Davao City Water District for the people of Davao City. The company entered into an agreement with DCWD to shift the dependence of Davao City’s main water supply from groundwater wells to the more sustainably sourced surface water of the Tamugan River.
