The Special Projects Team of the Duterte for President Movement calls for 300,000 strong volunteers to beat the world record in singing the National Anthem against Bangladesh last May 7, 2016. Dabawenyos positively responded to participate the Guinness for Federalism and at the same time attend and support the Miting de Avance of our beloved Mayor Rody R. Duterte which feeds simultaneously from the Luneta Park to Crocodile Park.
My personal view is that the event not only a call for us to sing "LUPANG HINIRANG", but also a call for UNITY & CAMARADERIE, an approach to life, a philosophy, an enthusiasm for experience that pervades a culture that has been neglected for so many years.
Davao City and other cities here in Mindanao has been long forgotten or let me rephrase it..somehow forgotten as part of the Philippine island. The call for FEDERALISM is one of the most important and innovative concepts if our Philippine Government will adapt this form of government, the equal sharing of revenues pertaining to one region. Most of the money goes to Metro Manila while Mindanao, despite its contribution to economy, it doesn't receive enough funds.
I agree that people especially here in Mindanao are clamoring for a CHANGE. Why? Because the concentration of wealth and power can be seen only to the capital. The central powers takes the great opportunity to get all the revenues and the remaining will be given to other regions. Which is very unfair! This is the start of GRAFT & CORRUPTION...what we need is fair sharing of revenues, wherein autonomous states will take control over their own development as well as save the revenues for their own needs, like EMERGENCY/CALAMITY FUNDS.
The event registration starts at 8am and people are waiting for their BARCODED ID to be scanned and be validated as per Guinness World Records requirements.
While waiting for the other participants to join the singing of the National Anthem which scheduled at 5PM, we got a good spot to take our lunch and have a good rest.
By the way, it's not totally a rest because every now and then, the organizers are giving instructions on what to do and not to do during the singing of "Lupang Hinirang". We are ask to group by 50's according to our shirt colors, we must sing it (lip sync is not allowed) - the assigned Marshalls/Stewards will see to it that everyone is singing, no taking of selfie during the singing, etc..etc...
We meet many people coming from different places in Davao Region, like some came from Mati City (Davao Oriental) and others are from Digos City (Davao del Sur), Tagum City (Davao del Norte) and IGACOS.
A festivity scenario that everyone will greet each other, sharing food and drinks. How can you restrain the joy that fills you when you hear the laughter in spite the scorching heat of the sun.
A FREE FOOD sponsored by Minute Burger.
A FREE DRINK sponsored by Nature's Spring Purified Water.
There are many Portable Public Toilets in every area inside the Crocodile Park.
A MEDICAL STATION by the DAVAO CENTRAL 911.
Another thing that best happened during the Guinness for Federalism Event, is that after the singing of the National Anthem it was followed by the OPERATION CLEANING.
And as we go home amidst the heavy traffic, someone knocks our car window. To our surprise, Mayor Inday Sara Duterte Staff and her Uncle (brother of Ma'am Elizabeth Zimmerman Duterte) give us food and drinks.
T'was a fun for us to join the event. It has been a very fulfilling experience for us as Filipino and as Dabawenyos. I want to thank and congratulate the organizers and all the participants! Madayaw DABAW!
